Peachtree City updated the Ordinance of the Outside Burn Ban. Watch the official statement from the Code Enforcement below.
Peachtree City has a year-round ban on outdoor burning for residents, which includes the burning of brush and yard debris. This ordinance aligns with the existing Georgia state-wide burn ban that is in effect from May 1st to September 30th each year in 54 counties, including Fayette County.
Here's a breakdown of the updated ordinance:
Year-Round Ban: Outdoor burning is prohibited throughout the year in Peachtree City.
Permitted Fires: The ban allows for some exceptions:
Outdoor Cooking Fires: These are permitted using gas, charcoal, or wood pits and grills.
Entertainment Fires (Fire Pits): These are allowed under specific rules:
The fire pit must not exceed four feet in diameter.
It must be located at least 25 feet away from any structure.
All fires must be attended at all times.
Safety Precautions: Residents are strongly advised to:
Stay informed about any special weather statements issued by the fire department.
Keep a water extinguisher and a garden hose readily available when using fire pits.
Use a garden rake for cleaning up afterward.
Yard Waste Disposal: Peachtree City residents can dispose of natural yard waste at the Natural Yard Waste Facility located at 100 Mead Field Drive. The facility is open on:
Wednesday afternoons: 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM
Saturdays: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
Consequences of Illegal Burning: Residents found burning without permission may receive:
A verbal or written notice of violation.
Potentially, citations in Peachtree City Municipal Court.
Reporting Illegal Burning: Suspected illegal burning should be reported by calling 911 or contacting code enforcement at 770-487-5731 (option 2).
General Information about Burn Bans:
Burn bans are implemented to prevent wildfires and manage air quality. Factors that contribute to burn bans include:
Dry Conditions: Low humidity and dry vegetation increase the risk of fires spreading rapidly.
Wind: High winds can make fires unpredictable and harder to control.
Air Quality: Burning can release pollutants into the air, impacting public health, especially during periods when ozone levels are already high (like the summer months).
It's always important to check with your local fire department or authorities for the most up-to-date burn ban information and regulations in your specific area. In Peachtree City, you can contact the Fire & EMS Department at 770-631-2526 for non-emergencies.
