If you live in Peachtree City, you have most likely been visited by door to door solicitors. They are selling lawn treatments, energy solutions, windows and anything else that you can imagine. Should this be allowed in this day and age? This is a perfect cover for someone "casing" a neighborhood.
"As of today, Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Peachtree City, Georgia, has a policy in place to regulate door-to-door solicitation. According to the city's ordinances, any person engaging in business as a canvasser, solicitor, or peddler must first register with the Peachtree City Police Department. This registration requires filling out a form with complete identification, employer information, and the products being sold. Additionally, those selling goods must possess a valid state sales tax number.
To obtain a Solicitor's Permit, applicants undergo a background check, and if approved, receive a photo identification badge that must be prominently displayed while soliciting. There is a non-refundable registration fee and a fee for the background check. Solicitors are restricted in their activities; they cannot call at residences or businesses displaying "No Solicitors" signs, and door-to-door soliciting is prohibited on Sundays and between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. Solicitors must also leave private property if asked to do so. Non-profit organizations may have some exemptions regarding the occupational tax certificate but are still subject to the time restrictions. Violations of these ordinances can lead to penalties. Residents are encouraged to ask for and verify the solicitor's permit and to call 911 if a solicitor cannot produce a valid permit."
